The Cold War Studies Programme co-organises the highly successful annual Graduate Student conference in conjunction with George Washington University and the University of California-Santa Barbara.  These conferences are important venues for presenting new work on Cold War history, and bring together scholars from Europe, Russia, the United States, China and many of the nations of the former 'Third World' in which the Cold War was contested.

The Cold War Studies Programme also co-convenes the European Summer School on Cold War History|, along with the Università di Firenze, Università di Bologna, Università Roma Tre, Università di Roma Tor Vergata, Università di Padova, EUI and SUM.

In addition, IDEAS has hosted major conferences on Cold War topics, both directly through the CWSP itself and through the work of regional programmes including the Africa Programme and the Latin America Programme|.
