Mladena and Dianko Sotirov Visiting Fellowship

LSE IDEAS is pleased to host the Mladena and Dianko Sotirov Visiting Fellowship thanks to the generous endowment by Mrs Mladena Sotirov.

Sotirov fellows study Bulgaria and the Balkan region, working to to understand its recent history, international affairs, the challenges it faces today and the prospects of tomorrow.

Sielke Beata Kelner

Sielke Beata Kelner will be working on Romanian leader Nicolae Ceaușescu’s policies towards the Middle East, 1978-1989. She is currently studying for her doctorate at the International History department of the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva.

Yura Konstantinova is the 2014-2015 Mladena and Dianko Sotirov Fellow. Dr Yura Konstantinova isa Senior Research Fellow in the Institute for Balkan Studies with Centre of Thracology, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. Her interest is in the field of Greek-Bulgarian relations in the 19th and the 20th centuries.

Veneta T. Ivanova was the 2013 - 2014 Mladena and Dianko Sotirov Fellow. In 2011 - 2012 she was a research fellow at the American Research Centre (ARCS) in Sofia, Bulgaria. Veneta holds a MA in History from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign and a BA in Political Science from the University of La Verne in Athens, Greece. 

 

Vasil Paraskevov was the 2012 - 2013 Mladena and Dianko Sotirov Fellow. In a short report detailing his research and experience as a Sotirov Fellow, writes that the "LSE IDEAS experience was overall invaluable. Furthermore the excellent and stimulating environment at LSE Ideas made my research in London not only particularly useful but also a rather enjoyable period." Read his full experience here (pdf).

Irina Ognyanova was the 2011 - 2012 Mladena and Dianko Sotirov Fellow. Dr. Ognyanova's scientific interest is in contemporary history and politics of Southeastern Europe.  Read Dr. Ognyanova's research as Sotirov Fellow  The Jewish Issue in Bulgaria between the Two World Wars  here.
