Cristina Barrios, PhD, is a researcher at the Spanish think tank FRIDE, assistant professor at ESCP Europe Business School and associate of the Transatlantic programme at LSE IDEAS. Before joining FRIDE, Cristina worked at the Council of Europe, The Carter Center, and as a consultant and electoral observer in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Cristina has a PhD in International Relations from the London School of Economics (LSE) and an MA in European Studies from the Université de Paris 8.
Her research focuses on democracy promotion as an element of European and American foreign policy, and part of her empirical work focuses on African transition cases. She has taught Introduction to International Relations, African International Relations and European Union politics at undergraduate and graduate levels, and is currently in charge of the International Relations module of the NATO Executive Development Programme. Her publications include FRIDE briefs/reports and other policy-oriented work (Notre Europe, the European Parliament) as well as academic articles in Ares, Mediterranean Politics, and European Political Science.
