Yan Vaslavskiy is Associate Professor of the Political Theory Department of the Faculty of Political Science, MGIMO-University, Moscow, Russia.
His research interests include study of the European history in the XIX and XX centuries from the period of the Napoleonic wars, especially their impact on political developments in various European countries. Also Dr. Vaslavskiy conducts research in the areas of constitutionalism, political parties, resource factor in the world politics, e-government and e-governance.
Dr. Vaslavskiy is Member of the Board of the Russian Political Science Association. He is office bearer at Research Committee #37 of the International Political Science Association, specializing in rethinking political development.
In 2007 Dr. Vaslavskiy was a visiting fellow at the University of Messina (Italy), in 2008 he was a visiting fellow at JFK School of Government, Harvard University (USA).
Dr. Vaslavskiy is author or co-author of about 20 works, including Political Atlas of the Modern World, published in 2007 in Russia by MGIMO-University and in 2010 in the UK by Wiley-Blackwell; a multi-volume Encyclopedia of Political Systems of Contemporary Nation-States (1st volume published in Moscow in 2010, the other 3 volumes are to come); Constitutional Conditions for Democracy: Comparative Analysis (Moscow, 2008).
Also Dr. Vaslavskiy is Deputy Head of the Executive Directorate of Global Policy Forum, held annually in the Russian city of Yaroslavl under the auspices of the Russian President Dmitry A. Medvedev.
