Dr Jamie Shea has been appointed as a Visiting Professor in Diplomacy and International Strategy at LSE IDEAS. After completing his D.Phil. in Modern History at Oxford University in 1981, Dr. Shea joined the International Staff of NATO in Brussels where he has occupied a number of NATO positions, including NATO Spokesman during the Bosnia and Kosovo conflicts, Director of Information and Press and Director of Policy Planning in the Private office of the Secretary General. More recently, he assumed the post of NATO’s Deputy Assistant Secretary for Emerging Security Challenges.
Outside NATO, Dr Shea serves as a Senior Transatlantic Fellow with the German Marshall Fund of the United States. Dr Shea has also held visiting academic positions at the College of Europe in Bruges, Sussex University and the Brussels School of International Studies of the University of Kent. He is also an Honorary Fellow at the Security and Strategy Institute at Exeter University. While at IDEAS, Dr Shea will contribute to research on global security and to the LSE IDEAS Executive Masters on Diplomacy and International Strategy.
