Visiting Fellows

Effie G. H. Pedaliu is a Visiting Fellow at LSE IDEAS having previously held posts at LSE, KCL and UWE. She is the author of Britain, Italy and the Origins of the Cold War and co-editor of Britain in Global Affairs, Volume II, From Churchill to Blair. The main themes of her work include American and British Cold War policy and strategy, European and Mediterranean security politics, and Human Rights in Southern Europe.

John Ryan is a Visiting Fellow at IDEAS. Professor Ryan is also a Research Associate at the Von Hügel Institute of St Edmund's College, University of Cambridge. He was Head of School at SCMS London, an international campus of SCMS Cochin, India, Fellow at the Centre for International Studies, LSE, and Fellow at the EU Integration section of the German Institute for International and Security Affairs in Berlin.

Gerlinde Groitl serves as Assistant Professor of International and Transatlantic Relations at the University of Regensburg, Germany. At IDEAS, she is working on her post-doc research on the strategic interaction of Russia, China and the West and the implications for the international order. Her main interests are US, German and European foreign and security policy, transatlantic relations, Western intervention policy and global power shifts.

Dr Igor Pelliciarri is a tenured Professor of contemporary history at the State University of Salento, and a regular contract professor at the LUISS University (Rome) and the Higher School of Economics (Moscow). 

Sara Lorenzini is Associate Professor of International History at the School of International Studies, University of Trento. Her research interests include the history and foreign policy of post WW2 Germany, North-South and East-South relations, Italian foreign policy after 1945. She is currently working on a book on the history of development aid during the Cold War.

Claudia Castiglioni is a Research Fellow at the Ca’ Foscari University of Venice. Dr Castiglioni holds a PhD in History of International Relations from the University of Florence (2011). Her main research interests include: US foreign policy in the Middle East during the Cold War, Iranian political and economic development, and energy politics.

Dr Artemy Kalinovsky is a Visiting Fellow at LSE IDEAS and an Assistant Professor of East European Studies at the University of Amsterdam.

Valeria Zanier was the Marie Curie Fellow, 2013 - 2014.  Dr Zanier’s main fields of interest are contemporary China-Europe relations and business history. After getting her PhD in East Asian History (Ca’ Foscari University of Venice), Dr Zanier was awarded Postdoctoral Research Fellowships from the Chiang-Ching Kuo Foundation (Taipei) and the University of Padua.

Michele Di Donato holds a PhD in European and International Studies from the University of Roma Tre, a MA and a BA in Contemporary History from Sapienza – University of Rome. During his time at IDEAS, Dr. Di Donato’s work dealt with the re-definition of the cultural and ideological relations between the European social democracies and the US in the 1970s, after the end of the post-war ‘golden age’.

Parag Khanna is a Senior Research Fellow at the New America Foundation, Senior Fellow at the European Council on Foreign Relations, and Director of the Hybrid Reality Institute.He is author of The Second World: Empires and Influence in the New Global Order (2008) and How to Run the World: Charting a Course to the Next Renaissance (2011). Visit his website for more analysis.

John Stevens is senior adviser to Taube-Hodson-Stonex Partners Unit Trust Co Ltd and a former MEP. He previously served as the European Parliament representative to the European Monetary Institute/European Central Bank and to the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

Giulia Bentivoglio is a Research Fellow at the Department of Political Sciences, Law and International Studies of the University of Padua. Dr. Bentivoglio is author of the volume The Necessary Relationship. Heath's Britain and the United States, 1970-1974 (2011), which analyses what historiography has usually considered the most critical moment in the 'special relationship'.

Fernando Purcell is assistant Professor and the vice-chair of the History Department at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC). Dr Purcell holds a PhD in History from the University of California, Davis, where he specialized in United States History
