LSE IDEAS Public Lecture Series on Asia Rising
Wednesday 5 February 2014, 6.30 - 8.00pm, Wolfson Theatre, New Academic Building
Speaker: Professor Simon Hix; Chair: Professor Arne Westad
Economic and political integration is high on the agenda in Asia, in ASEAN as well as more widely in the region. What can the region learn from the process of integration in Europe: from the institutional design of the European single market, to the Euro crisis and how the Eurozone has tried to solve it? Professor Hix will argue that key lessons from Europe, such as the delegation of powers to independent regulators and the design of representation and decision-making in supranational and intergovernmental institutions are certainly transportable beyond Europe.
