The big debate today is on the nature of China's 'peaceful rise'. Is there a gap between Western perceptions of Beijing's goals and the reality of Chinese intentions? What is China's actual strategic thinking? Dr. Li Fan will discuss China's goals from a policy planner's perspective.
Dr Li Fan is the current Chevening visiting fellow at LSE IDEAS and Deputy Director of the Department of Policy Planning at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China.
Professor Michael Cox is Co-director of LSE IDEAS and Professor of International Relations at LSE.
