Myanmar’s ongoing democratization efforts under President U Thein Sein have led to significant reforms. Yet Naypyidaw still faces many challenges (including constitutional issues, ethnic conflict and inter-communal violence) which also impact its foreign relations. What does this mean for the prospects of further political change? And how likely is it that Myanmar’s relations with the United States in particular suffer a setback?
