Amid US re-balancing toward Asia, China-Japan Relations have entered a dangerous stand-off over islands in the East China Sea. Anti-Japanese erupted in more than 200 Chinese cities as China reacted with unprecedented patrols to challenge Japan's de facto control over the islands. Why did China react so vehemently, despite Japanese claims that nationalisation would help stablise the situation? What missed signals and domestic political pressures led to this dangerous crisis?
