Israel Confronts its Past: the 'New' Historians and their Critics

Professor Avi Shlaim, Professor Fawaz Gerges (chair)
25 October 2010, 6.30pm, Sheikh Zayed Theatre

israel_independenceThe 'new' or revisionist Israeli historiography that emerged in the late 1980s has generated some heated debate. This talk will review the sticking points in the arguments between the pro-Zionist version of the Arab-Israeli conflict and the version put forward by the 'new historians'. It will also explore the relationship between Israeli politics and the historiography of the Arab-Israeli conflict.
