Perpetual light

Sir, A major factor holding back the development of new electricity generation (Report, Oct 29; letters, Oct 31) is a lack of confidence among investors, driven mainly by uncertainty about the direction and consistency of UK policies.

Repealing the UK Climate Change Act, as advocated by five Conservative MPs, would further exacerbate policy risk for investors, increasing the cost of alternatives to fossil fuels. It would also damage efforts to reach an international agreement on cutting carbon emissions.
