Economics on the Wire

Hosted by the LSE Library

Wolfson Theatre, New Academic Building,

Speaker

Peter Antonioni

Chair

Professor Stephen Machin

Join Peter Antonioni as he brings his sell out Kilkenomics show to London on a whistlestop tour through the economics behind The Wire’s Baltimore, looking at the economics of drugs markets, homicide and the decline of manufacturing and its social consequences among many other things.

Peter Antonioni is a senior teaching fellow at UCL's department of Management. He joined the department in 1998 after yo-yoing between academia and consultancy. Since then he has developed courses and people, co-written one textbook with two more to follow all while teaching a unique economics and scenario planning course. His interests are in understanding economic systems and the way they evolve (not usually predictably!) and why they undergo crises and in transmitting that understanding to others, and especially to audiences new to the subject. He’s also the co-author of Economics for Dummies.

Stephen Machin is a Professor of Economics in the Department of Economics at LSE, and Director of the Centre for Economic Performance.

LSE Library (@LSELibrary) hosts a regular program of exhbitions showcasing some of the Library's treasured collections. The next exhibition will be about economics and is called A Wealth of Ideas: economics and the LSE.
