Financing Growth in Bulgaria

Hosted by by the Financial Markets Group

CLM6.02, Clement House,

Speaker

Delyan Dobrev

Chair

Professor Simeon Djankov

As in much of Eastern Europe, Bulgaria's growth rate after the eurozone crisis has remained at half the previous growth rate. Efforts to increase economic prospects rely primarily on finding new ways to finance innovation and entrepreneurship. Mr Dobrev will highlight several such financing initiatives.

Delyan Dobrev is a former Bulgarian Economy Minister and former head of the Economy Committee in the Bulgarian Parliament.

Simeon Djankov is Executive Director of the Financial Markets Group at LSE and was Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of Bulgaria 2009-13. Djankov was chief economist of the finance and private sector vice-presidency of the World Bank.

The Financial Markets Group Research Centre (@LSE_FMG) was established in 1987 at the LSE. The FMG is a leading centre in Europe for policy research into financial markets. It is the focal point of the LSE's research communication with the business, policy making and international finance communities. The FMG works alongside the Department of Finance to understand problems in financial markets and in the decision-making processes of corporations, banks and regulators.
