During the Bosnian war, the medieval town of Mostar was split along the Neretva river, with the Muslim community on one side and Bosnian Croats on the other. The magnificent 16th century Ottoman bridge was destroyed in fierce fighting in November 1993, but has been rebuilt, opening in 2004; photo by Andrew Testa, panos.co.uk
