Ajit Menon

My formative years were in India and in profound ways that experience shapes and guides my thinking today. I trained as an organisational psychologist and I have taken these skills in leadership and organisation development and culture change and honed them over the last 13 years in big consulting engagements and for global financial institutions. My focus is simple: what lies behind the behaviours I can see and sense? This has involved me in some of the highest profile cases of the banking crisis; from investigating rogue trading to assessing the cultural backdrop behind failing performance. I have extensive experience in strategic change, organisation development and learning.

I am also pursuing a doctorate in organisations and consulting. My research interests are in organisational culture and behaviours. I am specifically interested in the systemic influences on behavior in the financial services industry.

Within the department I co-run the Theory and Practice of Organisation Development (PS462). The course is a practical introduction to organisational consulting underpinned by strong theoretical. We encourage students to relate key theoretical perspectives to organisational challenges covering a range of contemporary issues and contexts. The aim of this course is twofold: first, to explore the body of theory underpinning the practice; second, with reference to ‘real-world’ examples, to examine how OD is applied in tackling the challenges of organisational transformation and survival.
