Project title: Mechanistic Causality and Long-term Historical Transformations.
Project description: My project seeks to further our understanding of what is entailed in talking about "causal mechanisms" of long-term historical change. It aims to do so by analysing this notion from two different, yet arguably complementary, perspectives which up until now have remained largely disconnected from one another. The first is the growing philosophical literature on causal mechanisms, which has expanded considerably over the last few years, but which has ignored to a great extent the question at hand. The second is social and historical research.
