Project Title: Epistemic and Social Values in the Governance of Science - a Case Study of Norwegian Climate Scientists' Professional Understanding of the Relation between Science and Politics

Project Description: In this project I investigate the apparent conflict between epistemic and social values (i.e. values external to science) in scientific practice: Should scientists make social value-considerations in their role as researchers and experts? In order to answer this question I draw on central contributions in post-war and contemporary philosophy of science – as well as a case study of climate scientist with experience as experts in the IPCC.
