Irene Bucelli

I hold a PhD in Philosophy, awarded by King's College London in 2014. My thesis examined problems in the philosophy of action, specifically debates about normativity, autonomy and moral responsibility. My current interests lay at intersection between philosophy and the social sciences, with a particular focus on Education policy. I am currently collaborating with the Centre for Analysis of Social Exclusion (LSE).

Project Title: Aspects of autonomy and choice: developing a framework for education policy

Project Description: Enhancing people’s autonomy is widely seen as a goal of those educational models that are based on school choice. However, a little examination shows that the term ‘autonomy’ is used to capture rather different concepts by different users in this context. My project develops a rigorous philosophical analysis of the concept of autonomy to analyse these different concepts and examine the consequences of the various interpretations for the way practices are developed in this particular area of educational policy.
