Project Title: The principle of relativity – a logico-conceptual analysis
Project Description: The special principle of relativity is the assertion that “All the laws of physics take the same form in any inertial frame of reference”. This is usually regarded as a simple and clear statement expressing a universally valid meta-law of physics. The main finding of my current PhD work is that this is not entirely the case: in fact, the special principle of relativity, in its most general sense, has an ambiguous meaning and, in cases where its meaning can be made properly clear, one can show simple physical situations in which the principle fails to hold. During my CPNSS visit I will pursue further the analysis of the principle of relativity and finalize my dissertation.
