On 18 February 2016, the UKTI and the Confucius Institute for Business London, CIBL, held a Chinese language and culture training session for small and medium enterprises, SME’s, at the London School of Economics and Political Science, LSE. More than thirty people attended the event from various companies based in London, as well as representatives from the UKTI and the British Embassy. The session was opened by CIBL UK Director Nick Byrne who gave an opening speech welcoming the attendees to the event. Tim Nash then gave a lecture introducing the cultural differences between China and the UK. After that, CIBL Coordinator Dr. Lu Hong delivered a lecture called Chinese Business Negotiation Style and CIBL teacher Mrs Han Zheng gave the trainees a language taster session. During the rest break the attendees practiced Tai Chi, a traditional Chinese martial art, led by CIBL intern Ms Guan Yuchen. At the end of the training a VIP reception was held in the LSE staff dining room. The trainees, UKTI representative and CIBL staff all enjoyed this event greatly as it not only provided everyone with a chance to learn more about Chinese language and culture, but also created networking and cooperation opportunities.
