On 6 February, 2016, the Chinese New Year celebration for the arrival of the Year of the Ram was held at the Claredon Centre in Brighton and Hove. Organized by CEDP Chinese Centre, this great event attracted over 1,000 people including pupils from local schools. Academic institutions like the Confucius Institute for Business London (CIBL), the University of Sussex and University of Brighton also participated in the celebration activities to promote Chinese culture and Mandarin learning.
Lord Lieutenant Peter Field as Her Majesty's representative, Councillor Brian Fitch, the Mayor of Brighton and Hove were all invited and presented speeches to express good wishes for the New Year. Throughout the event, there was great participation from CIBL staff who demonstrated Chinese painting and calligraphy. The event ended in an award ceremony presided over by Councillor Brian Fitch, Lord Peter Field and Minister Councillor Li Guoqiang where volunteers were awarded with certificates.
