On 12 of October 2015, a public lecture by the Venice in Peril Fund was held at the London Royal Academy. The event was jointly organised and sponsored by the British Committee for the Preservation of Venice and the Confucius Institute for Business London (CIBL). Over 100 people attended the event.
The event was opened by a speech from Mr Peter Frankopan. In the talk, Mr Frankopan explored the role played by Venice through its connections across the Silk Roads. His latest book ‘The Silk Roads: a New History of the World’ uses a wide and rich variety of sources, including Greek, Russian, Portuguese, Arabic, Italian and Chinese, to examine the fascinating network that linked continents and oceans together. China played an important role in this history of business and culture.
After the speech finished the guests were treated to a wine reception where they were able to talk about issues brought up in the lecture. The event was an excellent opportunity to explore the historical culture of the area.
