2015 Routes into Languages

2015-RIL-03

On 13 March, 2015, the Confucius Institute for Business London (CIBL) worked successfully to once again run the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) funded ‘Routes into Languages’ programme. The event was held at the London School of Economics and Political Science and over 50 students from five London schools - Northumberland Park Community School, Dormers Wells High School, Addey and Stanhope School, Greenford High School and London Nautical School - joined this event to experience  Chinese language and culture at LSE.

CIBL China director Prof. LUO warmly welcomed the students and then Alex Gardner, CIBL student and young professional, talked about his experience of learning the Chinese language and the positive impact it has had on his career. After this Tim Nash, consultant, delivered a brief talk on the importance of learning the Chinese from the perspective of doing business with the Chinese people. The two talks drew great attention from the students and aroused their interest in learning more about China and its language.

After the talks students were treated to an interactive Chinese game in which they could win prizes before being split into 2 groups and taking part in basic Mandarin language class presented by CIBL teacher Ms. Li Chunli and Chinese calligraphy session by CIBL Tsinghua intern Ms. YU Lu. The event was brought to a close by a tour of the LSE campus.
