On 31 January, 2014, the first day of the Chinese New Year, the Confucius Institute for Business London (CIBL) held a New Year’s celebration at the UK Parliament. The event was hosted by Lord and Lady Bates and attended by over 200 leading members of the UK banking, legal, political and academic circles, with representative from both the Chinese and English communities. The event was opened by Lord Bate and then speeches were made by Sir Thomas Harris, Deputy Chairman of Standard Chartered Asia, Mr. Yang Shen, the Minister Councilor of Education from the Chinese Embassy and Mr. Nick Byrne, the UK director of the LSE Confucius Institute for Business London (CIBL). After the speeches were concluded the guest took part in this joyful celebration, enjoying cordial conversation and establishing new relationships. Everyone spoke highly of the event and was delighted that CIBL had provided such an outstanding platform for industry leaders to engage in business and cultural communication.
