On 9 June 2014,the Confucius Institute for Business London (CIBL) helped Oxford Economics LTD to organise a discussion for a research project funded by Hanban and the British Council on “Learning Chinese”. The research project aims to understand more about the reasons why British students choose to learn Chinese and what benefits their studies can bring future career. The research project manager, Mr. Andrew Goodwin, came and discussed with LSE students, Anthony, Alistair and Jana and CIBL office manager Craig Meegan. Anthony, Alistair and Jana are Confucius Institute scholarship winners and will study in China this autumn. The interviewees talked about their motivation and personal experiences in learning Chinese and their hopes for the help that it may bring to their future careers.
This is the first time that CIBL has helped to organize this kind of discussion. Through this experience CIBL has come to understands that more and more students in London are starting realize the importance of the language learning, especially Chinese, to enhance their future careers.
