On 30 May 2014 the Confucius Institute for Business London (CIBL) successfully organized the second away-day for its teachers and interns at the University of Cambridge. For the away-day Dr. Kent Deng, CIBL’s associate UK director, gave a talk on "The basic Concepts of Economics", to help CIBL staff expand and enrich their knowledge of economics in order to better carry out their business Chinese teaching .
Dr. Deng made use of diagrams and charts to describe some of the key concepts of economics using key terminology such as the market economy, equilibrium, monopolies, price elasticity, indifference curves, budget control and so on. In the interpretation of these basic concepts, group discussions were conducted on actual economic issues. This method of delivering the talk and conducting the discussions helped CIBL staff better understand better the concepts and basic principles of economics and increase their knowledge of the economy for their future teaching.
CIBL staff benefited greatly from the away-day and the practical knowledge they acquired is extremely useful for them in their teaching. CIBL regards this kind of training as an effective way of further improving the professionalism of its staff.
