CIBL Business Chinese Teaching and Learning Workshop

Workshop E

On 26th September, 2013, the Confucius Institute for Business, London, successfully hosted a Business Chinese Teaching and Learning workshop.

In the morning, Mr. Nick Byrne, the UK director of the Confucius Institute for Business, London, warmly welcomed all the participants and the scholars from Tsinghua University, Beijing Language and Culture University and Cheung Kong Business School. He also delivered a speech on The Comparison of ESP Teaching and Business Chinese Teaching.

This workshop was chaired by Dr. Lu Hong from the Confucius Institute for Business, London. Professor Luo Lisheng, the China director of the Institute, also gave a speech on the topic of The Business Chinese Course Structure. Professor Huang Guoying and Professor Ding Xia from Tsinghua University respectively introduced and analyzed The Market Needs of Business Chinese and the Status of Business Chinese Teaching with New Technology. Professor Zhang Li from Beijing Language and Culture University talked about The Misunderstandings in Business Chinese Teaching. During the workshop, Mr Neil Selby, Dean of Cheung Kong GSB Graduate School discussed How to Understand the Chinese Business Culture from the unique perspective of the learner.

About forty representatives from Confucius Institutes all over the UK and those from Germany as well as other European regions and Chinese educational institutions attended the workshop. In the afternoon session, scholars and representatives took part in lively discussions based on the morning presentations. They all agreed that this workshop would help to promote the teaching of business Chinese outside China. They expect to have further opportunities to participate in similar academic discussions so that a relevant mechanism could come into being.
