Professor Justin Yifu Lin, the former World Bank chief economist and senior vice president, development economics, gave a lecture titled "Demystifying the Chinese Economy" on the 18th December at the Old Theatre of London School of Economics.
As a result of the miraculous growth since the market-oriented reforms in1979, China’s status in the global economy has dramatically changed. Professor Lin’s speech reflected on China’s unprecedented growth in the past 32 years, examined the reasons for that growth, and discussed prospects and challenges for China to maintain an 8% annual growth rate in the coming decades. He also pointed out the two sides of that fast growth as well as the possible solutions. China’s economic growth might also bring some ideas for other developing countries.
After the lecture, Professor Lin answered lots of questions raised by the audience and his speech was warmly received since it contained detailed statistics and a historic perspective.
This public lecture was a joint event by Confucius Institute for Business London and LSE Department of Economics. About 250 people attended this lecture. Before the lecture, Professor Justin Lin just received an Honorary Degree from LSE – Doctor of Science (Economics). There was also a book sale for his latest book, "Demystifying the Chinese Economy".
