On 18th February, 2012,"China's Reform Phase II"——the China Development Forum was successfully held in Sheikh Zayed Theatre, LSE. The forum was co-sponsored by Confucius Institute for Business London(CIBL), LSE and LSE China Development Society.
Set against a backdrop of international economic turmoil and domestic tension, the 2012 China Development Forum was an intellectual platform through which we engaged with key issues of China's future. These issues include the reshaping of the Chinese ethos by Weibo, the Chinese word for "microblog(ging)", the advantages and disadvantages of progressively soaring city skylines from the perspective of sustainable urban planning, and the question of whether China's entrepreneurs are good followers of Schumpeterian economics. Further, the forum featured analysis on ameliorating China's income inequality, confronting unfavorable demographic changes and overhauling its financial markets.
The roster of attendant speakers consisted of a stellar list of authoritative academics and practitioners from the foremost institutions worldwide, many of whom having worked closely with top ranking Chinese policymakers and renowned institutions. The notable speakers included Mr. Xiaoping XU, Co-founder of New Oriental Group; Professor. Lan XUE, dean of School of Public Policy and Management in Tsinghua University; Professor Xiaonian XU, Professor of Economics and Finance, CEIBS; Professor Athar Hussain, Director of LSE Asia Research Centre, LSE; Mr. Stephen Perry, Chairman of the 48 Group Club and leaders from other well-known organizations.
