After a successful lecture focused on 'China Model' last year, Confucius Institute for Business London (CIBL) held another lecture on this topic, titled 'China Model 2', on 8th December at Hong Kong Theater, LSE. This year, three experts joined the panel of speakers: Dr Kent Deng (Reader in Economic History, LSE), Professor Jude Howell (Professor in International Development, LSE), and Professor Athar Hussain (Director of the Asia Research Centre, LSE).
In the first 45 minutes, each speaker explained their views on 'China Model'. Dr. Deng reviewed and compared the economic growth between Europe and China from 1011AD to 2011AD using vivid graphs and statistics. Professor Hussain discussed some critical problems resulted from urbanization, eg. low wages, high housing prices, and problems of city transportation system. Professor Howell talked about the miracle of Chinese economic development, focusing on three issues which may block the development. During the Q&A session, the audience joined the panel for further discussions.
