
The "2011 Tsinghua Forum" was successfully held in the Hong Kong Theatre at LSE this week. Four professors including Professor Long Denggao, Liu Taoxiong, Yan Xuetong and Wang Tianfu from Tsinghua University spoke at the Forum on 8-9 August 2011, sharing their research and views on the growth of China economy, the transformation of social structure, and the trends of Sino-US, Sino-Asian relations and their impacts on international configuration and reconfiguration.
Mr Nick Byrne, Director of the LSE Language Centre and the Confucius Institute for Business London, Professor Li Cao of Tsinhua University chaired successive sessions. Dr. Kent Deng from LSE gave insightful comments on each of the four presentations. The speakers answered questions from an engaged audience, and at the receptions afterwards the exchange of views continued.
The forum was organized by the Confucius Institute for Business London (CIBL) in collaboration with the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Tsinghua University. As the first forum of its kind, this particular event was very well-received and successful its goal of attracting a wide community of participants from London and elsewhere, including management from HSBC, Ernst & Young, British Petroleum Plc, Deloitte LLP, and Standard Chartered Bank, students and scholars at LSE and other universities in UK.
As the Confucius Institute for Business London is here to expand knowledge of China's economy and politics and provide a platform for Chinese and British experts and laymen alike to exchange ideas and views on current political, economic and social development issues, forums such as this one will continue to enhance these purposes. As a local business participant observed, "This forum gives us a route to develop our understanding of Chinese Economy and Politics, and help us to be better prepared for the challenges of creating business links with China."
