On 31st October 2011, the LSE Old Theatre was bustling with scholars, business professionals and students who were all intrigued by the CIBL public lecture given by Sir Thomas Harris, the Vice Chairman of Standard Chartered Capital Markets Ltd, on the 'Role of a Foreign Bank in China'.
Sir Thomas Harris first introduced the Standard Chartered's role in China, including its 150 years operation history in China, its current situation and its future expansion plans. He reviewed the current global financial crisis, analyzed China's financial market, and explained his confidence in foreign banks' prospects in China. He also expressed his view about the RMB to become a world reserve currency, and answered many questions in the Q&A section.
Professor Danny Quah, Professor of Economics of LSE, was the Chair of the lecture.
