China's official data for demystifying China's modern history

On 6th December, 2011, Dr. Kent Deng gave an insightful lecture in the Sheikh Zayed Theatre, LSE. The event was chaired by Professor Athar Hussain, director of the Asia Research Centre, LSE. The lecture addressed China's modern history, titled: 'China's official data for demystifying China's modern history'. The lecture also introduced Dr Deng's latest book, 'China's Political Economy in Modern Times: Changes and Economic Consequences, 1800–2000'.

Dr Kent Deng has been part of an extensive array of notable organizations. These include: a reader in Economic History at LSE; the Director of China in Comparative Perspective Network (CCPN); Co-Director of the Confucius Institute for Business London (CIBL); LSE. He is a Fellow of Royal Historical Society (FRHistS) and winner of 'The Best Thesis in the Last Four Years' awarded by the International Economic History Society in 1994. He is continuously writing numerous articles and papers concerning the Chinese economy.

The year 2011 is the centenary of the 1911 Revolution. It is time for us to revisit China's history over the past two centuries. The aim of the book is to unveil the key mechanisms affecting a quarter of humanity over the past two centuries. Therefore, Dr. Kent addressed ten normative issues regarding China's 200 years' history and also gave some perspectives on China's potential development in the future. Finally, he answered a range of questions raised by the audience.
