Programme Summary

This course is designed for fluent speakers of Mandarin Chinese who want to learn how to communicate in Cantonese. It covers the pronunciation, tones, grammatical structure and vocabulary of the Cantonese language. Classes include conversation, role-play and interactive learning. By the end of the course you will be able to conduct a conversation in Cantonese.

Aims and Objectives

By the completion of this course students can expect to:

  • To develop the basic ability to use Cantonese effectively for purposes of practical communication
  • To focus on listening and speaking skills in language and attitudes required to promote and facilitate further study of Cantonese
  • To know major communicative function in business and daily environment

Course Details

Course A  (35 weeks)            

Term1: 19 September 2016 - 16 December 2016 (13 weeks)            

Christmas Break: 17 December 2016 - 8 January 2017 (3 weeks)            

Term2: 9 January 2017 - 31 March 2017 (12 weeks)            

Easter Break: 1 April 2017 - 23 April 2017 (3 weeks)            

Term3: 24 April 2017 - 30 June 2017 (10 weeks)            

      

Course B  (22 weeks)            

Term1: 9 January 2017 - 31 March 2017 (12 weeks)            

Easter Break: 1 April 2017 - 23 April 2017 (3 weeks)            

Term2: 24 April 2017 - 30 June 2017 (10 weeks)            

Course C (10 weeks)            

Term1: 24 April 2017 - 30 June 2017 (10 weeks)

 

Fee structure            

  • Course A  - £875 (£12.5 per hour)            
  • Course B  - £792 (£15 per hour)            
  • Course C  - 360 (£18 per hour)

How to enrol

Language assessment

  1. Please fill out a student information form
  2. Contact Dr. Paiyu ZHANG: p.zhang6@lse.ac.uk/, to arrange a language assessment. This is preferably done face to face at the CIBL office but in special circumstances can be done over the telephone.
  3. After the language assessment you will be allocated into the most appropriate class

Make the payment

  1. Follow this link to the LSE e-shop
  2. In the amount section please MANUALLY enter the couse fee (make sure the quantity section shows 1 unless you are making 2 separate payments for the amount above)
  3. Follow the rest of the online instructions to complete the process
  4. Forward the automatically generated payment confirmation form to Craig Meegan
